Bike Talk v.020 🚲
Bavarian Electric Cycles, is certainly not a brand that you will see much of on this side of the pond. However, that doesn't mean this cycle maker isn't worth mentioning.
BEC
is an e-bike manufacturer out of Bavaria, their cycles are built for the
high-land, hill mountains of the region. Create with the everyday rider in mind
both young and old.
These
beautifully crafted bikes are the product of one Hadrien Dorfman, CEO of BEC.
On behalf of Cruiser*Racer, we want to say to Mr. Dorfman. You are a builder
after our hearts! Your designs are well thought out and executed.
As
a brand with a focus entirely on Cruiser and Café Racer style bicycles, the BEC
Vintage Custom, and Custom XXL are the obvious choice to talk about. But
,
we have flirted with the ARES-1000WH MTB.
The
body is much like the Jeep, and Juiced MTB's we've reviewed in previous months.
Here's a quick rundown on BEC's version.
ARES-1000Wh eMTB
Pedelec
250W Bafang mid-drive
Rock
Shock Fork Suspension
Shimano
Brake System
Schwalbe
Tires
The
Vintage Custom models are cruisers, the Custom-2018 is an eight gear, while the Custom XXL-2020 is a single gear.
The
Bavarian eBike frame much resembles that of the Rayvolt eBike, seems the
eastern Europeans enjoy a similar taste in electric bicycles.
So,
what's on the frame of this mountain rider? Here are the details,
Vintage Custom-2018
SUNACE
8 speed
1500W
MAC gear hub motor
48V
8A charge
880Wh
Lithium-ion battery pack
70lb,
Steel Frame
28"x80mm
Double Chamber Wheels
That
is one beast of a bike, the Vintage Custom XXL is defiantly not as fast. That
is only because it's a single gear only. But, what it lacks in speed, it
carries over in power.
Vintage
Custom XXL-2020
Single
Speed
250-1500W
Direct-drive hub motor
48V
5A charge
880Wh
Lithium-ion battery pack
77lb,
Steel Frame
28"x80mm
Double Chamber Wheels
Unfortunately,
we may never see this brand stateside. The US eBike market shows very little
interest in Cruiser-style eBikes.
There
are also a great many of these producers around Europe and Asia to reveal to
the west, smaller builders just may go unnoticed.
For
what it's worth, Bavarian Electric Cycles gets a node and two thumbs up from
the Cruiser*Racer Brand!
