Welcome!

Hello e-nthusiast, welcome to Cruiser * Racer. I'm RebelLion of the Electron Rebel MBC. This blog shares with you my love for electric bicycle technology. This Blog is dedicated to builders who found it hard to find solid information on the dynamics of building a DIY e-Bike. As a builder, I learned a few lessons along the way. I want to share the lesson I've learned with you. My hope is to build a community of like-minded e-nthusiast who share information to help others better understand the dynamics that can't be found across the wire.

Meet GHOST CRUISER, D.I.Y. e-Bike

  Bike Talk v.002  🚲

Let's talk about what it cost to build Ghost Cruiser!

Although building the cruiser was a great learning process, it did take time to gather all of the parts. So, where the parts worth the wait?
In this blog.

Rating: 1 - 3

I will talk a little about the parts and rate each between 1-3. One being the least liked and three being the most.

Purchase Items

Kent Bayside Cruiser 2600:

The Cruiser is a decent bike. Being that it came partially assembled, it operates ok. What I'm unhappy with is the brake system. The brakes are standard calipers, and I have to fight with them often. To properly adjust the brakes.

36v 500w 26" Elektrisch Hub:

The hub motor was totally worth the price. It rides smoothly and goes up to 22-25 mph. I wanted a powerful motor to assist with climbing hills due to all of the elevation in my area.

 48V 12.5Ah HaiLong Lithium:

The HaiLong battery is also a great product. I can get up to 21 miles on a full charge and up to 40 miles if using peddle assist. It was easy to install, charge, and use. The hard-plastic shell has a lock and protects the battery cells from moisture.

Lunintrail Double Mount:

After adding a center console and electric trunk to the frame, the bike was ten pounds heavier. When the battery was added, the bike was sixteen pounds heavier than when I pulled it out of the box. With all the weight added, the original kickstand was obsolete, so I added a double kickstand to allow the weight to sit in the center.

Skeleton Skull:

The mirrors are helpful. They are much longer than necessary, which sometimes makes it hard to adjust to my standard. However, I love the way they look.

Vintage Retro LED Fog Lamp:

I love the aesthetics of this lamp, but it is a cheap piece of crap. The switch was broken on arrival. Once I turned it on, it didn't turn off. I had to remove the battery to disable it, and within two months, the light wouldn't turn on at all.

 Kiley LED Vintage:

The rear lamp is mint. I love the way it works and glows. It was easy to install, and it has two settings, flash, and a solid glow.

Vintage Speedometer:

I liked this product. It worked great. But when I bought it, I originally had the rear motor, and the front tire was original. I didn't anticipate not being able to use it on the front hub motor. The speedometer can only be installed on the front wheel, and because the hub motor is so large, I was unable to mount the sensor on the wheel. I did attempt to mount on the rear wheel, but the sensor cable was too short.

Blix Rear Luggage Carrier:

Under another circumstance, this rack would work well but, because I use it to carry my trunk, it is not worth it for my cruiser. In retrospect, I should have bought a newer rack that mounts to the saddle seat post.

Rating: 1

Wireless Anti-Theft Security:

Super inexpensive to buy and very efficient if I slightly move my bike the alarm chirps. It sounds like my old car alarm, its load, and highly recommendable.
